To mark the Autumn Book Festival, the launch of the book *Cataloging Guide Based on the MARC21 Format*—published by the National Library of Mongolia—was held at the Branch Library on September 18, 2026.
Over 40 people attended the launch event, including representatives from the Ulaanbaatar Central Public Library, the Central Children's Library, the Mongolian Library Consortium, the Parliament Library, and the libraries of various institutions—such as MNUMS, MUST, NUM, CULT, MNUE, MULS, New Medical University, the University of Internal Affairs, the National Defense University, and Etugen University—as well as the Mongolian People's Party Library and faculty members from the University of Culture.
T. Bayarlakh, Head Librarian of the National Library of Mongolia, opened the event and delivered remarks. L. Gantulga, Chair of the Board of the Mongolian Library Consortium and the book's consultant, also spoke, and a video greeting was presented by the book's general editor, D. Enerel, Associate Professor and Head of Technical Services at South Dakota State University (USA). G. Bayartuya, a methodologist at the National Library of Mongolia, presented the development process of this manual, noting that it was created with the aim of being simple, clear, and accessible, incorporating feedback and advice from specialized catalogers at public and university libraries who possess knowledge and practical experience with the international MARC21 format.
The advantages of this manual include:
• Comprehensive information: Covers not only the fundamental concepts of the MARC21 format but also bibliographic and authority records.
• International standards: Key fields and indicators are presented with their English terminology alongside translations and explanations.
• Practical guidance: Cataloging steps are demonstrated using examples from the Koha system.
• Reminders and recommendations: Critical areas requiring special attention to prevent errors are specifically highlighted.
